The Key Press task is used to simulate a keystroke.

  • Key Press: (popup): Determines the type of key press:
    • User Defined: Select and use the "Set" button to define the key using the keyboard.
    • Volume Up: Simulate pressing the Volume Up key. Adjusts system volume.
    • Volume Down: Simulate pressing the Volume Down key. Adjusts system volume.
    • Mute: Simulate pressing the Mute key. Adjusts system volume.
    • Brightness Up: Simulate pressing the Brightness Up key. Adjusts screen brightness.
    • Brightness Down: Simulate pressing the Brightness Down key. Adjusts screen brightness.
    • Contrast Up: Simulate pressing the Contrast Up key. Adjusts screen contrast.
    • Contrast Down: Simulate pressing the Contrast Down key. Adjusts screen contrast.
    • Illumination Up: Simulate pressing the Illumination Up key. Adjusts keyboard backlighting on applicable Power/MacBooks.
    • Illumination Down: Simulate pressing the Illumination Down key. Adjusts keyboard backlighting on applicable Power/MacBooks.
    • Illumination Toggle: Simulate pressing the Illumination Toggle key. Adjusts keyboard backlighting on applicable Power/MacBooks.
    • Eject key: Simulate pressing the Eject key. Ejects CD/DVD from drive.
    • Power key: Simulate pressing the Power key. Presents Power key dialog with a choice to Restart, Sleep, Shutdown or Cancel.
  • Key description: (field): Describes the key press to be simulated
  • Set/Cancel (button): Press Set to capture a keystroke. Press Cancel to cancel a pending keystroke capture.
  • Stroke Type (popup menu): Indicate the style of key stroke. 99% of the time you will probably want to use a normal stroke.
    • Normal: Simulate a press and subsequent release of the defined keystroke.
    • Press: Simulate pressing but not releasing the defined keys. The system will interpret the keys as down until released using the identical keys and a Release stroke type.
    • Release: Simulate releaseing the defined keys. Require to balance any Key Press task using a Press stroke type.
