Proxi v0.19

link: Proxi v0.19

In this update:

  • AppleScript trigger
  • Help menu now available in dockless mode
  • About box / Splash screen reworked
  • Improved updater
  • Updater preferences
  • Fixed extra value and filter item selections after a delete
  • Exported blueprints check to make sure they are not replacing an existing file
  • Assorted cleanup in anticipation of open beta

Mostly minor and cosmetic changes in anticipation of the open beta. I did add the AppleScript trigger though and that’s not really so minor. Not only is it useful for the obvious reasons, but you can also have Proxi trigger itself through an AppleScript task, allowing you to chain together triggers (be careful to avoid an endless loop). The AppleScript trigger definition takes this form:

trigger v : Proxi AppleScript trigger
trigger reference : the object for the command
description Unicode text : Description of the trigger
name Unicode text : Name of the trigger
[image TIFF picture] : An optional TIFF image for the trigger
[pictImage picture] : An optional PICT image for the trigger
[value integer] : An optional value for the trigger

To try it out, add an AppleScript trigger to your trigger list and set the AppleScript trigger name to “test”. Add a Screen Message task displaying the Description value or whatever. Then create a new AppleScript in Script Editor that looks like this:

tell application "Proxi"
trigger name "test" description "Testing Proxi triggers via AppleScript"
end tell

Run the script and marvel at the results. I’ll leave the rest to your imagination.

Today’s Links: Griffin’s Proxi shortcut app looks better than Apple’s Automator!

    Griffin Proxi for Mac
Impressive shortcut building app for Mac which looks more useful than Apple’s Automator. Interestingly, the Proxi knowledge base, ProxiPedia, runs on a wiki engine and Griffin also has a Proxi blog for hardcore fans to …

I saw that just a little while ago Kevin and I really appreciate it! I’ve been nervous all morning waiting to see how people respond. So far, so good… but I’m still nervous :)

You guys are doing a great job with this app. I already love it so much, I think I might buy a PowerMate, if only to make it light up when I get new mail ;)

  4. Casey Says:

Guillermo, thanks so much for the compliments! Awesome that you’re thinking about buying a PowerMate, but why limit yourself to just one ;)

I own two Powermates, a black and silver one, and it is great to see I can now finally control both of them. Interface is very good; all I need is some time to experiment more with it…:-) Great stuff!

I looked at your movie and tried to create my own trigger to just display the currently playing iTunes Artist and Track… but you can’t do it. You can’t make a hotkey monitor trigger and then a screen display task to show info… it cant’ get any values.

Nice to have access to values without doing anything… then you could display all kinds of stats with a key.

    That’s my feedback… thanks.

    Nice work.

Please please, however, stop the brushed metal madness. You have time to correct this while it’s still a beta.

Most Mas OS X GUI development is quickly moving away from this, so stay current and jetison the now dated and tiresome brushed metal UI.

Gradient or unified is infinitely more appealing.

I think I might have found a bug: for some odd reason the previous iTunes track command wasn’t working with a hotkey monitor. I had to delete the trigger and re-create to fix it.

Great app. I have an AirClick and Powermate from OSX 10.3 - 10.4.6 with latest Griffin app software . This Proxi is working well to control both. What we need is explanation of how it will fit in the bigger picture with the Airclick USB Software and the Powermate System Preferences.

Personally Proxi should run on login like I have it set and it should replace both softwares. It is much more reliable. Having said this - we need the preconfigured settings for all the apps from both Powermate and AirClick to be moved into the BluePrint Browser. Cheers - Keep up the great work

I’m not certain that Apple is encouraging a move away from the brushed metal look. The Finder, iCal, Address Book, QuickTime, etc still use this style of window and what’s more, Apple awarded Delicious Library (a brushed metal app widely praised for its GUI) with two Apple Design Awards at last year’s WWDC. Proxi uses a standard background (it’s just a check box in Interface Builder) so at whatever point apple decides to rework this appearance, Proxi will be updated automatically.

Here’s what I’d like to see. The original AirClick and PowerMate software will still be the default apps for those products, but perhaps we add an Extras folder to each of those CDs containing Proxi. Proxi right now is for the more experienced user. Eventually as we have more and more Blueprints and we feel Proxi could more effectively guide a beginning user, it would become the standard install for those products.

That’s how I see it, but I can only suggest. It will be someone elses call.

PROXI IS GREAT - but i still have a little question - i made me some timebased buttons for my two powermates - but now i still have the problem, that tey are too sensitive - they triggering about 30 times in one twist and that’s a lot to much for my use - so my question: how can i slow down the triggerrate to maybe 1 trigger per twist - i realey hope that someone in here can help me
